On November 18, families, faculty, staff, and members of the community gathered in the Ross Upper School Court Theater for the grades 9–12 fall concert. The program was a delightful mix of classical music, current top 40 songs, jazz hits, and a graceful performance by the modern dance elective students.
Under the direction of Dean of Performing Arts Adam Judd, the chorus sang Philip Glass’s Einstein on the Beach, Antonio Lotti’s Mass in D Minor, Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive,” and “All of Me,” by Toby Gad and John Stephens.
Next, Rob Davies, chamber music instructor, directed the chamber music ensemble as they delivered beautiful renditions of Paul McCartney’s “Yesterday,” Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Trio in C Minor,” and Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida.”
Michael Guglielmo and Morris Goldberg directed the jazz band in performances of “Tiny Capers” by Clifford Brown, Billie Holiday and Arthur Herzog’s “God Bless the Child, “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers, and Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A major.
A solo performance of Xin Le Taun’s “The Boundless Sea and Sky” by sophomore Oliver (Yichen) Chen and a modern dance study, choreographed for her students by dance and yoga instructor Sheryl Hastalis, completed the evening.
“I am so proud of the dedication the students showed to creating a diverse, professional, and delightful evening of music and dance for our community,” Adam said.
