The Jazz Band opened with “For Heaven’s Sake” and “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” arranged by late jazz instructor Hal McKusick, and “On Our Way” and “It’s You,” arranged by teacher Morris Goldberg.

The high school dance electives wowed the audience with presentations of dances from Africa, India, and the Dominican Republic, choreographed by instructor Sheryl Hastalis. Guest choreographer for the Latin section was teaching associate Brileigh Pinkney.

The evening also included the piano, song, and dance composition “My Destiny and Dream High” and the Chamber Ensemble’s renditions of Beethoven’s “Allegretto” from Trio in B-flat major, and Mozart’s “Violin Sonata in E Minor.”

Students in the Ballet elective were up next, performing beautiful excerpts from Swan Lake, with guest artist teaching associate Spencer Jones, and Emma Engel presented her award-winning solo recently recognized at the Longhouse Reserve 2014 Annual Awards ceremony.

The Chorus continued with arrangements of “Home of That Rock,” “Silhouettes,” “Sylvie,” and “Somebody That I Used to Know.”

The evening came to a rhythmic close with African Drumming performing “Bata / Alphabet,” “Kpanlogo / Lucky Stevens,” and “Killing Me Softly.”

The production was dedicated to the memories of Ross line chef Franco Denaro and Richard Dunn, beloved teacher and colleague, both of whom recently passed away.
